Michelle has been passionate about art since a young age. She started sketching live figure sessions at 7 years old and gradually moved on to oil paints, and later, mixed media. Today, she uses her brushes, knives, and charcoal to express emotions, concepts, and scenes through figurative and expressive brushstrokes. She likes to explore different cultures that have impacted her as she travelled around the world, using her studies in contemporary and pop-art styles to explore abstract portrayal of ideas.
Throughout that journey, she found her love for creating portraits, because of the mystery in the myriad of colors, dips, highlights that make us unique, portray emotions and meaning, and communicate something unspoken to the viewer. Therefore, these portraits are a central part to Michelle’s portfolio, showing her style: a unique balance between realistic and contemporary, giving the viewer a concrete subject, but a concept open to interpretation. She hopes to give others a way to experience the expressions of an individual person in order to better understand themselves.
